OpenStreetMap US
December 2020
As 2020 comes to a close, I want to express my  gratitude and appreciation for your continued engagement and support of OpenStreetMap US during this long, unforgettable year. With your help, we were able to grow the organization and connect with mappers across the country and around the globe despite the ongoing challenges of COVID-19. This month we reflect on 2020 to acknowledge and celebrate these wins.

I look forward to working with you in the new year to find even more ways OSM US can support and advocate for all the important work that you do for OpenStreetMap and our community.  Wishing you a healthy, safe and happy holiday season!

With gratitude,
Maggie Cawley
Executive Director, OpenStreetMap US

OpenStreetMap US ~ 2020 Year in Review

OpenStreetMap US Code of Conduct Adopted

In June, OSM US adopted a comprehensive Code of Conduct for all of our events and communication channels that embodies our community values and expectations to ensure that everyone can feel safe, respected and welcome in the community. Thanks to the hard work of the CoC Committee! Learn more in this blog post.

OpenStreetMap US an Official OSMF Local Chapter

This year, OSM US became an official local chapter along with Geolibres (OSM Argentina), OSGEO Oceania, FLOSSK (OSM Kosovo) and  OSMDRC. There are now OSMF local chapters on five continents. Learn more in this blog post

OpenStreetMap US: Connect 2020

With State of the Map US on hold, we pivoted this year and held a virtual 3 day event. We had 500+ mappers register, learned from 36 community speakers, held 15 community-led sessions on Saturday and raised nearly $15,000 for the organization. Thanks to the hard work of volunteers and the financial support from donors and sponsors who made this new event possible!

OSM US Virtual Mappy Hours

In 2020, OSM US hosted 19 Mappy Hours featuring a variety of topics and 20 guest speakers, and virtually connected with close to 150 mappers. Thanks to our most recent speaker, Diane Fritz. Recorded presentations can be found here.
Don't miss the next one January 13, 2021 at 8:30pm ET!

30 Days of OSM Challenge

In November we launched a 30 Days of OSM Challenge. Each day a different task was posted on the Wiki, from stop signs to streams. We had 49 contributors from 7 counties, logged 641 changesets and saw 25,188 map changes. This enthusiasm has inspired us to do 12 months of OSM in 2021. Have ideas for themes? Let us know!

Each month our mapping efforts will revolve around a theme, to be posted on the wiki. January's theme will be a celebration of winter. Let it snow!
