January 2021
Mappy New Year!
As we begin 2021, I am excited to share some things we can all look forward to this year. We will continue to host virtual events such as Connect 2021, monthly mappy hours, and TeachOSM workshops. Look for new programs, thematic mapping initiatives like 12 Months of OSM and 30 days of OSM, and additional ways to get involved with OpenStreetMap US.

Thank you for all of the important work you do!

With gratitude,
Maggie Cawley
Executive Director, OpenStreetMap US

OpenStreetMap US Members - It's time to vote!

Calling all OpenStreetMap US members, next week you will vote for your next board of directors! As you may know, OpenStreetMap US is a nonprofit organization governed by a five person volunteer board. Each year, OSM US members elect new representatives to serve on the board. Learn more about this year's candidates on the wiki.

All members will receive a ballot through OpaVote on February 1st.

Not a member? Join by tonight, January 29 at midnight EST to receive a ballot. Not sure about your status or if we have an updated email address? Please reach out to us at membership@openstreetmap.us.

12 Months of OpenStreetMap

12 Months of OSM kicked off in January with a Celebration of Winter theme and the Mappy Hour featured 'Mapping the Ouray Ice Park' in Colorado.

February will be a Celebration of Black History month, and a good time for us to take a closer look at what is in OSM. Are there missing landmarks, memorials or artwork associated with black historical figures, abolitionism, or the Civil Rights Movement? Your library's website may have resources to learn about Black history in your community. Learn more about #12monthsofOSM on the wiki

Got a Few Minutes to Map?

Mappers in Silicon Valley are importing tens of thousands of business in the largest POI import in OSM since GNIS in 2009 - and you can help! Check out this diary entry explaining why this import matters no matter where you live and showing how you can pitch in quickly and easily. Or, go to this MapRoulette project and follow the instructions to get started!

OSM Foundation ~ International Community Survey

Make your voice heard! The OpenStreetMap Foundation is conducting a survey of the global OSM community. It will be open for participation until February 14th. Access the survey here.
