With the support of volunteers and land managers, we are launching our first statewide campaign aiming to update trail information on 60,000+ miles of trails in OpenStreetMap across Utah public lands. Using official or approved trail information from land managers, volunteers will add critical attributes such as public access and allowed use. Through these efforts, navigation apps will be able to better display OpenStreetMap trail data, improving equitable access to the outdoors and the public’s ability to understand and plan for the true nature of a trail system, while protecting our sensitive ecosystems.
