OpenStreetMap US

Cartographers often need to create multiple map styles that share most of the same elements; for example, a light and dark mode version of a map. To avoid repeating code across dozens of similar stylesheets, Stamen has developed a build system that generates stylesheets out of a folder of variables, templates, and style fragments. We’ll describe how we use this build process every day, illustrating how it fits in with our suite of design tools such as Maperture, Chartographer, and Figmasset.

Kelsey Taylor has been a Senior Technical Cartographer at Stamen Design since 2021 and is based in Washington, DC. Kelsey has a Bachelor’s in environmental studies and philosophy and a Master’s in geography from The George Washington University.
