“Microsoft uses all open data sources and tools to update, add, and improve the motorized road network of the US. This undertaking potentially can look into thousands of open data-sets produced by administrative divisions from the state, county, or a city-wide level. Challenges exist between understanding the accuracy, completeness, and modeling of these individual data-sets, and then developing best practices guidelines for updating OSM roads with the relevant attributes, within the local context. Guidelines, communication, planning, and making use of all open data processing tools all play a vital role. We will share our processes, findings, tools, challenges, and learnings.”
