AR maps are coming. As with self-driving cars, the question is when, not if. The challenges are significant, but the pieces of the puzzle are there and many companies have started putting them together. While the majority of progress has been made on smartphones, new devices will break down the barrier between map and reality, spurring yet imagined use cases.
This talk will explore some of the puzzle pieces that relate to OpenStreetMap including:
- Pedestrian ways
- Attributes describing ways such as incline, safety, lighting, access, surface type,
- Building entrances
- 3D building data
- Indoor data
- Parking
We’ll conclude our AR journey with a look at Mapillary and Rapid and the role they play bringing these puzzle pieces together.
