The Mappiest Event of the Year

State of the Map US is the largest gathering of OpenStreetMap community members from across the country, this year in Madison, Wisconsin. Come connect with mappers, businesses, academics, government agencies, and nonprofits all collaborating around the free and editable map of the world.

Whether you’re brand new to open mapping or you’re an OpenStreetMap veteran, this conference is for you. It’s the best party in mapping!

• February 1, 2026: Standard registration opens. Visa Letter of Invitation request deadline.

Volunteer

This conference would not happen without the volunteers working behind the scenes. Our interest form is now open if you’d like to volunteer at our registration table, moderate rooms, go on a beer run with our Executive Director, or help out with any other odd job during the conference. Volunteers will choose their specific assignments and time slots at a later date, but all volunteers who sign up for four or more total hours of volunteering receive a $100 ticket to the conference. Thursday, June 11:

1:00 PM to 5:00 PM: Workshop day or offsite field trip to the UW Milwaukee Map Library

6:00 PM to 8:00 PM: Welcome social

Friday, June 12:

8:30 AM to 9:30 AM: Registration & coffee

9:30 AM to 5:00 PM: Talks, panels, and birds of a feather sessions

6:00 PM: Social at the Edgewater Hotel (additional ticket) or scavenger hunt

Saturday, June 13:

8:30 AM to 9:30 AM: Registration & coffee

9:30 AM to 5:00 PM: More talks, panels, and birds of a feather sessions

7:00 PM to 10:00 PM: Party at the Madison Children’s Museum

Apply for a Fellowship

The application for State of the Map US 2026 Fellowships has now closed. If you applied, stay tuned for a decision by the first week of March.

Call for Proposals

The primary Call for Proposals has closed, but we have extended the deadline to submit a poster for our Poster Session! When submitting a poster idea, please use the following application form and be sure to review the Poster Guidelines document. All conference particpants are subject to the OpenStreetMap US Code of Conduct. Please take a moment to review the document, and remember to be respectful. Conference participants violating the Code of Conduct may be sanctioned or expelled from the conference without a refund at the discretion of the conference organizers.
