Mapping USA: Spring 2021 - Mark Your Calendars for May 20, 21 & 22!

OpenStreetMap US is excited to announce a new, FREE, virtual event celebrating our community and everything you’re mapping across the USA! If you find yourself humming a familiar pop tune from the 1960s, you are not alone! Grab your tropical shirt, sunscreen and straw hats and join us as we take a virtual tour of OpenStreetMap across the US. From May 20-22, 2021, Mapping USA will include an informal Mappy Hour on Thursday, a half day of talks on Friday, and a day of workshops, birds of a feather sessions and mapathons on Saturday.
With the success of last year’s virtual Connect 2020 event, we are hoping that more opportunities to gather virtually will continue to enable even more people from across the country to learn about OpenStreetMap and connect with fellow mappers through a combination of curated and community-led dialog. We hope to see you there!
Call for Your Participation Until April 23!
Mapping USA will showcase mapping and mappers across the USA and we need you to participate! We are calling on all members of the community to share your ideas and session proposals. Whether you are brand new to OSM or have been a core contributor since the beginning, we want to hear from you! Use this form to submit a proposal.
We invite proposals about anything OpenStreetMap, with special emphasis on local projects, including but not limited to:
- Community experiences, such as stories from you local OSM group
- The state of the map in [YOUR STATE]
- Mapping all the things (rails! trees! shops! trails! boundaries! imports!)
- Indigenous mapping
- Failfest - discussion of a failure and lessons learned
- OpenStreetMap basics and how to’s
- OSM at your school, in education
- Demo that cool tool you built for OSM
- OpenStreetMap and government
- User experiences - how have you been using OSM data?
- Corporate & institutional contributions to OpenStreetMap
- OSM in the field
The program will include space for 5 min lightning talks, 10 min talks, workshops, birds of a feather sessions, and there’s even room for thematic mapping parties and your wonderful new idea.
