As an advocate for OpenStreetMap, people often ask, “Hasn’t the world already been mapped?” But geospatial data in many parts of the world has historically been expensive or not available. Not anymore. OpenStreetMap and its committed mapping community have altered the geospatial data landscape by providing free, editable open data to people all over the world. This talk provides an overview of the OpenStreetMap project and a glimpse at the community behind it.

Maggie is currently the full time Executive Director for OpenStreetMap US, based in Richmond, Virginia, working to support and grow the organization. She was a board member for two years before becoming Executive Director in 2019, and served as the chair of the National Geospatial Advisory Committee from 2022-2025. Her background includes work in urban planning, GIS analysis, project management, and field data collection.
