To help further our mission to grow and support the OpenStreetMap community in the United States, OpenStreetMap US is seeking a mid-senior level software engineer with a passion for open data and maps. Our ideal candidate is well-versed in modern full-stack web development and has experience with open source software. You will mainly work on MapRoulette and OSMCha, both well-established open source projects that are considered key parts of the OpenStreetMap software ecosystem.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

  • Maintaining and improving the MapRoulette and OSMCha full stack web applications

  • Working closely with Project Leads to scope and prioritize features and bug fixes

  • Proactively responding to outages and critical bugs

  • Actively connecting with the user community on Slack and Github Issues

  • Supporting other OSM US projects as needed, for example Tasking Managers and Field Papers

WHAT YOU BRING

  • At least 3 years of professional full-stack web development experience

  • Experience with at least two of React, Python / Django, and Scala

  • Experience deploying and managing large scale web applications in production

  • Experience with managing cloud environments (AWS, Digital Ocean, Docker, Kubernetes)

ALSO IMPORTANT

  • Care about and have an interest in open source and open data

  • Genuine interest in connecting with your user community

  • Experience or strong interest in geospatial technology and OpenStreetMap

  • Flexibility, a good sense of humor, and a willingness to learn

  • Driven, goal-oriented, and strives for continuous improvement

  • Familiarity with the OpenStreetMap community

  • Fluency in English

  • Experience working in a volunteer-run organization

  • Experience working remotely with a team

This is a full-time, remote position with limited travel required for events and conferences. OpenStreetMap US offers competitive compensation and benefits.
