In 2018, Utah voters passed a ballot initiative that changed the decennial redistricting process for the state, and the Utah Independent Redistricting Commission was formed. The UIRC reached out to the GIS community for volunteers to help them map out new congressional, state house/senate, and board of education districts. The goal of this redistricting initiative is to create an open, transparent, and inclusive process that results in better boundaries for all Utahns.
