OpenStreetMap US

The next State of the Map US will take place in Spring 2014. We invite you to propose a city to host the conference.

Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • Accommodate a crowd of 500-600
  • Accommodate two tracks and a keynote for all attendees
  • Separate rooms for Birds of a Feather sessions - ideally a handful
  • Large metro area and strong local interest
  • Easy and affordable to travel to and stay
  • A date between March and May 2014
  • Strong local OpenStreetMap community is a plus

Hosting State of the Map US is an excellent opportunity to expand the prominence and reach of OpenStreetMap in a city, as well as bring more contributors and users on board to the project. The conference has a history of bringing both the national U.S. mapping community and international OpenStreetMap contributors together to connect and discuss the future of OpenStreetMap and mapping overall. What’s more, State of the Map US is one of our best opportunities to bring OpenStreetMap to a wider audience and grow our community in numbers and in diversity. It’s explicitly geared towards a wide audience of OpenStreetMap contributors and users, spanning from individual enthusiasts, to governments and businesses, to nonprofits and schools and universities.

Your proposal

Please include in your proposal:

  • A short paragraph on why you’d like to host State of the Map in your city
  • Venue details and specs
  • Hotel options with price ranges and a map
  • Exact dates available
  • Proposed budget
  • Local community members committed to help with planning

Please submit your proposal by October 6, 2013 via email to board@openstreetmap.us.

How it works

The U.S. OSM chapter board will select the location and dates for State of the Map 2014 by the end of October. Similarly to last year, the actual conference organization will be led by OpenStreetMap US, with volunteers from the OpenStreetMap community contributing. Local volunteers are especially important to help with local outreach, city specific needs like good drinking locations, and onsite help during the conference.
