State of the Map US 2015 will take place in New York City on June 6-8 at the United Nations.

We are looking forward to bringing together the diverse world of OpenStreetMap at a symbolic venue for three days of talks, workshops, and discussions around the project. We couldn’t have said it better than the project proposal:

New York City is a place where people from all over the world come together to make something bigger and more meaningful than themselves. This spirit of diversity and collaboration is also what makes OpenStreetMap the best map in the world. The opportunity to host State of the Map [US] not only in New York City, but at the United Nations, an organization founded on international cooperation, offers an unprecedented opportunity to create an [event] that reflects the breadth of contribution at the heart of the map we all love.

The opportunity to host State of the Map US at the United Nations is a very exciting one. They are offering us the use of the impressive General Assembly Hall and other conference spaces free of charge. This will allow us to build a more expansive scholarship program than in the past offsetting higher attendance costs.

As next steps, expect a call for participants for a program committee, and a call for presentations.

Besides the New York City proposal, we received two very strong proposals for Saint Louis and Seattle. We know putting together a proposal is hard work and we want to extend a huge thank you for your commitment. There’s an open invitation to everyone to help organize State of the Map US 2015 (just send us an email). A special invitation goes out to anybody who has helped putting together a proposal this year but wasn’t selected.
