Our goal is to ensure a welcoming, inclusive, community-focused State of the Map US, the annual United States conference for all OpenStreetMap users. This year, State of the Map US is being held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City, and we’re looking for new faces and stories from all over the nation and the world.
If you’re contributing to the OpenStreetMap community in an interesting way – whether that’s by organizing meetups, making maps, adding data, writing code or documentation, or something else – and financial help will make the difference in whether you can come to State of the Map US, we urge you to apply! No matter where you live, we welcome your application.

In addition, if this is your first time attending a State of the Map conference, if you don’t have easy access to OpenStreetMap learning communities, if you are a woman or minority, or if you have an exciting local story to share with us (call for session proposals opening soon!), we particularly want to see you in New York City!
We’re offering four levels of financial support - a free ticket to the conference, $500, $1,000, or $1,500 - depending on your self-identified need and whether you are traveling within the United States or internationally. These multiple levels of support are designed to bring as many people to State of the Map US as possible, and, while the amount you request will not affect how we view your application, we ask that you select the minimum amount of support that will allow you to attend.
One last thing: I personally know that feeling of looking at application pages just like this one and experiencing a shiver of impostor syndrome. Do they really mean me? Are my contributions “important enough” for a travel grant or scholarship? Will I fit in? If you are having any of those thoughts, please head over to the scholarship application and fill it out right now. We want you at State of the Map US and we will try our best to help you get there.
