OpenStreetMap US

We know. We wrapped up State of the Map US 2016 only weeks ago. You may still be watching the talks that were all recorded and are now on YouTube. As you reminisce and recuperate, get ready to look ahead! The call for bids for State of the Map US 2017 is now open!

It takes a lot of time to prepare an amazing OpenStreetMap US conference and we will be there to help. So if you would like host the next State of the Map US in your city in the summer of 2017, NOW is a great time to start getting people together and prepare a bid.

What do we want to see in a successful bid to host SOTM US?

  • Excitement - We want your bid to exude the positive vibe that we have had going since 2010!
  • Professionalism - Show us that you have a grasp on what it takes to run a large event.
  • Exploration - We want to see that you have done some thinking about where to host a 600/700/10000 ;) person event that includes socials, gatherings and of course talks!
  • Organization - Show us that you have a team of folks who will have the time to make a great conference. (Expect 5 hours a week at first and much more as we get closer to game day.)

Bids are due by October 15th so there is time to get your ducks in a row. We will hold at a few online town hall events where the board and perhaps some representatives of this year’s local organizing team will take all your questions! These will be in parallel on Google Hangouts and on the OpenStreetMap US Slack channel. Watch this blog and @openstreetmapus on Twitter to know when and how to tune in.
