This year we are offering a few different types of financial assistance. Perhaps your employer will cover the cost of your ticket but you need help with the travel costs. Maybe you can get yourself to (or are already located in) Minneapolis, but you need to take advantage of our free conference childcare. When you fill out the form, we invite you to select all that apply.

  1. A complimentary ticket to State of the Map US
  2. Up to three nights of accommodation at a nearby hotel (Thursday, Friday, Saturday)
  3. Up to $500 toward the cost of your travel
  4. Child Care

In return, OpenStreetMap US asks recipients to help us promote the conference in your communities and on social media.

We also encourage you to consider submitting a talk for the conference. Whether by organizing meetups, making maps, adding data, writing code or documentation, or something else, we’re interested in hearing your story. You can propose a 20 minute talk, a 5 minute lightning talk, or a longer workshop on the same form here. If you have never proposed a topic for a conference before, please don’t think it’s not for you. Every year, about half of the sessions at State of the Map US are by first-timers.

Who is Eligible?

These scholarships are available to anyone, but their purpose is to help those attend who would not have otherwise been able to. We want to make sure that State of the Map US is an event that includes the diversity of the communities we serve—geographically, demographically, experientially, and more. We know that travel costs can be a hardship, and offer these scholarships as a way to help mitigate that. It takes millions of edits to make OpenStreetMap a resource for us all, but it only takes you to make our community unique and special. We value every member, and look forward to receiving your application!
