OpenStreetMap US

Cycling networks in the US are often disconnected, requiring cyclists to detour substantially to access safer routes. These routes, while often known by experienced utilitarian cyclists, are not known to people new to utilitarian cycling. This session focuses on how to improve cyclist routing algorithms by using existing OSM tags and municipal data sources to provide safer cycling routes. The technique uses cycling GPS traces and stochastic optimization to find cost functions for routing.
