Connect 2020 - Mark Your Calendars!

From October 29 to 31, OSM US will host a free, virtual event to celebrate our community and all things OpenStreetMap. Connect 2020 will include an informal Mappy Hour on Thursday, a half day of talks on Friday, and a day of workshops, birds of a feather sessions and mapathons on Saturday. Our hope is that this new, virtual gathering will enable even more people from across the country to learn about OpenStreetMap and connect with fellow mappers through a combination of curated and community-led dialog. We hope to see you there!

Call for Your Participation

This event will only be interesting if you participate! We are calling on all members of the community to share your ideas and session proposals for the first ever OpenStreetMap US: Connect 2020. Whether you are brand new to OSM or have been a core contributor since the beginning, we want to hear from you! Use this form to submit a proposal.

We invite proposals about anything OpenStreetMap, including but not limited to:

  • OpenStreetMap basics and how to’s
  • Mapping all the things (rails! trees! shops! trails! boundaries! imports!)
  • Indigenous mapping
  • Failfest - discussion of a failure and lessons learned
  • OSM at your school, in education
  • Demo that cool tool you built for OSM
  • OpenStreetMap and government
  • User experiences - how have you been using OSM data?
  • Community experiences, such as stories from you local OSM group
  • The state of the map in [YOUR STATE]
  • Corporate & institutional contributions to OpenStreetMap
  • OSM in the field

The program will include space for 5 min lightning talks, 10 min talks, panels, debates, workshops, birds of a feather sessions, and there’s even room for thematic mapping parties and your shiny new idea.

Do you want to host a workshop or facilitate a mapathon around a certain theme with fellow mappers? Are you interested in discussing an OpenStreetMap related topic in depth with like-minded folks during a birds of a feather session? Sign up for an available time slot using the table on the wiki.

The event is free and open to all to attend. Please register using this form. By registering, you also agree to abide by the OpenStreetMap US Code of Conduct.

The event is free to attend, but we appreciate financial support and are seeking event sponsors. Is your company interested in supporting OpenStreetMap US? Email us at or visit the registration page to learn more.

Have questions? You can email us at or chat in the #connect2020 channel on the OSM US Slack. Please note that the Connect 2020 event will not replace the annual State of the Map US conference, which will we will host when safely possible in Tucson, Arizona.

We look forward to connecting with you in October!
